Unfortunately due to very sudden changes in fee arrangements for use of public spaces, Mud Pies has gone back into planning mode. Little Foxes Nature Playgroups are for all abilities and are facilitated by an Occupational Therapist. Please contact Michelle on email@example.com with any queries.
Come and get muddy with Mud Pies!
Mud Pies is an all abilities playgroup for children 0-5 and their parents/carers.
Mud Pies is aimed at children with special needs or children/families who want to join a playgroup but feel overwhelmed with larger groups.
The format for Mud Pies is very similar to our Little Foxes Nature Playgroup. We start each session with a welcome song on our big mat. There will be a few activity areas set up, for example a mud kitchen, water play area, rock/mud painting, teepee building, quiet reading area, baby zone. Each week there will be a theme, for example music, where a range of instruments will be available and we will sing songs as a group or individually. We like to encourage free play and exploration of the amazing space we have at the You Yangs. At the end of the session we have a story and goodbye song on our big mat. We don’t have a set break for meals. Families tend to bring snacks and children nibble as they play!
Mud Pies is a rain or shine outdoor playgroup. We have an Extreme Weather policy available on our website.
The groups numbers will be limited to 8 families to allow for more 1:1 time (if needed) over the weeks with Michelle, the Occupational Therapist facilitating the group.
In the early weeks Michelle will discuss goals (if relevant) with you and then work with you to develop a plan to address these goals using nature based play activities.
Some examples of goals may be:
-playing in the sandpit at kinder
-touching different things (like playdough, food) comfortably
-holding and manipulating tools (eg crayons, spoons)
-climbing and moving around the play ground (eg climbing up a ladder to reach a slide)
-managing clothing (eg taking off pants)
These and many other goals can be addressed using nature play. The great thing is that the ‘therapy’ can be hidden in fun play. The added benefits of a playgroup is it provides an opportunity for parents/carers to socialise as well. Trust the therapist....there is nothing more therapeutic than a good debrief about the current developmental challenge in the great outdoors!!
The membership fee includes:
-Family membership to Mud Pies (siblings are more than welcome)
-Parks Vic entry fees
-Goal setting and session plans
Mud Pies is a registered playgroup with Playgroup Victoria and we ask that all families take out a membership or link their existing memberships. The Playgroup ID is 117254.
The location is pram friendly and has public toilets.
We look forward to seeing you there!
